About the Book

This interdisciplinary volume will examine the conditions and ethical, foundational basis for leaders and followers in making peace, examine post-conflict situations around the world, and study how and why reconciliation and forgiveness can transpire. We wish to draw together the theories and methods that examine the obstacles within leadership and followership that contribute to the realization of these conditions for a more peaceful and just world order.

Our central uniqueness is to: 1) bring forth a volume that is not just leader-focused — although clearly we will have extensive leadership studies theoretical and pragmatic coverage of the leader in peace building and reconciliation; 2) ask our contributors to concentrate on followership in addition to the leadership aspects of peace building; 3) provide a cutting-edge transdisciplinary approach as opposed to traditional literature in this field, which has fallen into intellectual disciplinary vacuums and research silos; 4) link leadership with international justice entities (e.g., the international criminal courts, human rights organizations, and judicial leaders), to address the role of seeking reparative justice and preventing future conflicts; and 5) focus on reconciliation not only within its usual intellectual confines of spiritual/religious domain of mercy, forgiveness, and redemption, but also in a more expanded analysis of how leaders and followers practice, for example, inclusive/servant leadership formulas to advance social justice and human rights benefiting both leader and follower and civil society.
