The Emerging Scholars Research Consortium (ESRC) is a unique mentoring opportunity at the conference where emerging/junior scholars present a poster on their research to a group of seasoned senior scholars. Each attendee is also paired with one special scholar in their research area who provides in-depth feedback, advice, and fresh perspectives.

"I so enjoyed the emerging scholars research consortium and still remember some of the insights of my first senior scholar, Brad Jackson. He told me to stay true to myself and study what I wanted to study, stay focused, and don't stray off the track. I thought of that often when I was figuring out my dissertation! My second senior scholar, Sean Hannah, was someone whom I also really admired since I do research in his area and had read so much of his research. I was so honored to have him comment on my work. I'd certainly recommend the Emerging Scholars program to all.... Unlike some other conferences I have attended, ILA conference attendees are very helpful and go out of their way to give honest critiques to help make my research stronger."

– Deirdre Dixon, winner of the 2015 Kenneth E. Clark Student Research Award discussing her participation in two previous ESRC events at ILA.

Participants in the consortium are also invited to publicly present their posters during Saturday evening's conference Poster Session. The Consortium serves as a venue for junior and senior leadership scholars to interact, foster collaboration, meet potential co-authors, and continue to enrich the field. It is also an event for universities to identify potential faculty and for publishers to find future authors and contributors.

Participate as a Senior Scholar

Share your expertise and wisdom with an emerging scholar! Sign up to participate in the Emerging Scholars Research Consortium. Meet potential future co-authors and junior faculty and contribute to the enrichment of the field.

About a month before the conference, senior scholars are sent information on the work of the emerging scholar with whom they have been paired. Senior and junior scholars will meet face to face during the consortium for in-depth conversation.

Each senior scholar will be acknowledged individually in the conference program book and listed as participating in this session.
